Dolls & Comics

i'm working on two dolls for the first comic book of my loved partner gabriel corbera,
"Days longer than long Pork Sausages"
(a great event for us!! it will be published by Space Face Books)

funny to watch all the transformations and tests these soft bodies are suffering,
these two fellows are living now another parallel live! haha
yesterday, i spend a rainy afternoon at home,
finishing one head, hair making and embroidering muscles, face...
while watching "Blue Hawaii"(as a child, i was a super fan of Elvis) on tv.

"Days longer than long pork sausages"

happy day!
feliz día!

Nell Brinkley, the "Queen of Comics"

did you heard about Nell Brinkley?
i didn't until few weeks ago when i got smitten by her amazing portrait on Pinterest.
i love to know more about people that impress me and i usually get amazed by their work or their lives.
maybe it's true that photography is able to capture the soul or the energy of people,
or perhaps people irradiates such strength and personality that it passes through the image.
this is another case i got in love of someone and her/his work,
so here is Nell Brinkley (1886-1944), she was know as the "Queen of Comics."
..
There's a beautiful book published by Fantagraphics about her: "The Brinkley Girls",
look inside the book on their flickr

Amazed by these exquisite and glamorous epic heroines on those romantic historical vignettes.

Detail of "The Brides"
"... Nell Brinkley was known for her ability to personify the 1920s move towards modernity, and to interpret Victorian tradition through the eyes of her flapper heroine, the Brinkley girl. In this inspired and tremendously fun pen and ink illustration, two Brinkley girls are seen in an all out battle to catch a bridal bouquet tossed by an unseen hand. In an ironic turn, they become so engrossed in their conflict that the flowers they are fighting for appear about to fall to the ground. The frenzied scene, with its youthful energy and sexuality suggests the ambivalence of Brinkley's new woman towards traditional marriage."

Spring Fairs Part I: GRAF - Small Press Fair - Zines, Comics & Books

Graf Fair logo and promotional poster
by my dear love Gabriel Corbera

we took home this Kovra 4 promotional poster by ediciones valientes

Julia and Cristina of Teiera

..

my friend Gabri of Editorial Morsa was really kind inviting me to share his stall,
this is his beautiful new book "Las pequeñas".
we were next to our other friends of Bang and Mamut Comics,
they are publishing some cool books for kids.
i was selling my first zine: Spot the difference!

and also Gabriel's zines
Monday Suicide and Chufi!
..

interesting talks like the one about International Comics
with MaxIrkus M. Zeberio & Misma.

we had fun selling and meeting friends, lovely people and interesting stuff at the GRAF Fair,
an independent and self publishing fair in Barcelona,
we needed from a long time an event like this to show and present the work of many talented artist and small press.
it was great and although it wasn't the right place to sell my stuff,
i always take so many time developing all the packaging, designing and drawing cards
that the graphic part of every piece becomes a very important part of the process,
so i enjoyed being surrounded by so many works on paper and paper lovers.
