New Craft Project: DIY Easter Kite Brooches!

happy Easter!
this is one of my favorite times of the year
spring, flowers, singing birds and flying humble bees!
here is my new craft project for handmade charlotte
a diy easter kite brooches that come with
a printable greeting card for giftving.

so i made three different kite designs:
bunny, chick and easter egg

esta es una de mis épocas preferidas del año
primavera, flores, pajaritos cantando y abejorros revoloteando por doquier!
este es mi nuevo tutorial para handmade charlotte
unos broches con forma de cometas primaverales
que van con una tarjeta descargable, perfectas para regalar.
si es que estoy super pillada con las cometas,
me ponen feliz,
he hecho tres diseños diferentes, un huevo de pascua, el conejito y el pollito.

Bye Bye winter! Books and recipes

trying to get rid of these last cold days.
we only had a wintery month this year,
march brought  some rain and cold weather
but the rest of the winter it felt more like spring.
i've enjoyed some lovely books like
Illustration School by Sachiko Umoto
or The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate
i've started a dangerous addiction to young adult fantasy books,
that's quite embarrassing... but i've been having such a good time
reading The Grisha, The Half Bad Trilogy
  The Wolves of Mercy Falls, The Raven Boys
(just #1, the second was a little boring)...
and loved this charming witch called Winnie
another great thing of this winter was
this comforting and healthy recipe:
hot carob with chia and almond
my own version of this hormone balancing vegan hot chocolate
and this medicinal hot chocolate

esto intentando dejar atrás estas últimas semanas de frío,
aunque este invierno ha sido más bien una larga primavera...
marzo ha sido el único mes frío y lluvioso.
este invierno he estado leyendo un montón
he encontrado libros tan bonitos como éste
Illustration School Lantas y pequeñas criaturas, de Sachiko Umoto
o La Evolución de Calpurnia Tate
y me he enganchado a los libros de fantasía de jóvenes ardientes
como Los Grisha, El lado oscuro y El lado Salvaje
  Los Lobos de Mercy Falls, Los chicos del cuervo
(el #1, el segundo lo dejé a medias )...
jeje!! es bastante penoso, pero me lo paso bomba leyéndolos!
y me encantó la bruja Brunilda
otra cosa buena que me ha dejado este invierno
ha sido esta receta tan rica y reconfortante
algarrobo caliente con cía y almendras
tuneé estas dos recetas:
chocolate caliente vegano para equilibrar las hormonas
y chocolate caliente medicinal

Book Love: Anna Kovëcses and One Thousand Things

are you, like me, an Anna Kovëcses fan?
can't resist pinning every illustration by this brilliant hungarian artist
when i find them on Pinterest.
love her simplicity and clever use of colors and shapes.
so talented!!

her book One Thousand Things is another of her beautiful creations.
it's a really lovely visual encyclopedia of first words,
i always loved this kind of books that makes you stare and enjoy every detail,
so enjoyable finding the little mouse on each page
surrounded by new things and words to see and say!

yo no puedo resistirme a pinear todas y cada una de las ilustraciones
de esta artista hungaresa que me voy encontrando en Pinterest.
me encanta su simplicidad y el uso tan inteligente
que tiene de los colores y las formas,
tiene tanto talento!!

su libro Mil cosas es otra de sus maravillosas creaciones,
una enciclopedia visual de primeras palabras realmente bonita.

me encantan los libros en los que te pierdes
y te quedas embobado mirando cada detalle.
en éste te entretienes y diviertes buscando el ratoncito
en cada página rodeado de nuevas cosas y palabras...
además la edición es preciosa, tiene algunas de las cositas ilustradas de la tapa
plastificadas, y el color beige de las páginas lo hacen todavía más gustoso.

Book Love: A Wrinkle in time by Madeleine L'Engle

just read A Wrinkle in time by Madeleine L'Engle,
too political and religious for me
but I really enjoyed the story, characters and
the amazing descriptions of nature, planets, civilizations...
got a very unlovely edition in catalan at the library, but the spanish one wasn't better...
loving all these other covers,
here you'll find more covers and lots of info about this great book.

acabo de leerme Una arruga en el tiempo de Madeleine L'Engle,
yo no lo sabía pero es un libro súper mítico de 1962
y por lo visto marcó un antes y un después en la narrativa juvenil.
demasiado político y religioso para mí,
aún así he disfrutado con la historia, los personajes y las descripciones de naturaleza,
planetas y civilizaciones que van apareciendo en el libro.
pillé una edición catalana realmente fea en la biblioteca,
aunque la edición castellana tampoco es muy bonita...
si el libro y la historia está llena de arcoiris y luz,
¿cómo pueden hacer una portada tan gris?
no sé ni cómo me llevé el libro... suerte que siempre empiezo
a leer un poquito para ver si me gusta :)
mira todas éstas súper portadas, son flipantes.
aquí hay muchas más, el libro da mucho juego! jeje

por cierto, me lo he estado pasando bien actualizando mi cuenta en goodreads,

DIY Springtime Sparrows

happy tuesday!
Spring is just around the corner.
Birds have built their nests and are ready to say hello to their little ones!
you can celebrate the occasion by making a super fun
pair of mommy and baby sparrows.
up-cycle plastic bottles and socks
for making cute sparrow birds on this easy craft project.
add lovely accessories as hats, scarfs, ties…
to your birds and create the different characters.

and when you’re done playing with the birds,
you can hang them from the ceiling for a lovely woodland decoration.

la primavera está a la vuelta de la esquina,
aunque ahora justo hace un frío que pela!!
he hecho este tutorial de una mamá o papá gorrión y su hijito
reciclando botellas de plástico, calcetines, cajas de cereales, limpia pipas y fieltro
para celebrar la primavera, no el frío ;)
se les pueden añadir complementos para crear diferentes personajes,
también quedan muy chulos como móviles, colgando del techo.

Dolis y Dolos Packaging

just redesigned 'dolis y dolos' packaging:
a cardboard box with plastic lid,
it took me a little to figure out how to make something simple,
tough, light and cute for dolls shipment,
the old plastic boxes that i used aren't still available
(something reasonable 5 years later...)
i think they still look pretty inside these boxes.
the only one of my wildflowers left on the shop,
doli prickly pear doll, seems to be really comfortable in there!
don't you think so?

he rediseñado el packaging de 'dolis y dolos':
una caja de cartón con tapa de plástico.
me ha llevado un tiempo encontrar la manera de hacer algo sencillo,
resistente, ligero y bonito para el envío de las muñecas.
las cajas de plástico que utilizaba ya no las hacen
(lógico después de 5 años...)
creo que quedan bonitas incluso dentro de estas cajas.
la única de mis flores silvestres que queda en la tienda,
doli flor de chumbera, parece muy cómoda ahí dentro,
no te parece? :)

Book Love: Colors & Shapes (Formas y Colores) by John J. Reiss

you probably know Colors and Shapes by John J. Reiss from your childhood,
lucky you :)
in spain we've had to wait until now to enjoy these amazing children books.
Blackie Little Books just published a bilingual edition in english and catalan, or spanish,
following the design of the original edition.

John J. Reiss studied Arts at Black Mountain College
and dedicated these books to his teacher Josef Albers and his wife.
Colors and Shapes are an application of Albers theories of colors and geometry.
using very simple and clean illustrations and
combining basic with complementary colors Reiss creates a beautiful artwork.
while enjoying a book full of beauty and a great modern design.
love how the book Colors starts, with an illustration of a bed and the white light of the morning,
ending with the same image during the black night and a little girl sleeping.

así de bonitos son los nuevos libros de Blackie Little Books,
soy una fan total de esta editorial.
además de escoger muy bien las obras,
las publican con tanto mimo y buen gusto que se convierten en auténticas joyitas.
esta edición bilíngüe en catalán, o castellano, e inglés de los libros
Colores y Formas de John J. Reiss son lo más.
se trata de unas obras de referencia de los setenta que
editados en tapa dura siguen fielmente el mismo tipo de diseño limpio
de la edición original. la portada en mate contrasta
con el colorido brillante de las página interiores.


con una gran capacidad de síntesis y una buena dosis de humor en su libro Colores,
Reiss describe los colores que nos rodean a lo largo del día utilizando animalitos, plantas y objetos cotidianos.  los dibuja de manera muy simple (formas de color sin línea)
y juega siempre con los colores básicos y sus complementarios.

me encanta el guiño que hace empezando el libro con la luz blanca del día y una cama hecha, y luego cerrándolo ya de noche con la misma cama y una niña durmiendo.

en el libro Formas, Reiss utiliza al señor zorro y su ayudante el topo,
para explicar las diferentes formas geométricas regulares
y construir con ellas un sinfín de objetos.
en este libro juega también
con los colores básicos y diseños simples
para crear preciosas abstracciones geométricas y demostrar
que el mundo está compuesto por formas geométricas.

esta edición bilíngüe además tiene el añadido del inglés,
que siempre se agradece.

John J. Reiss, quien tuvo la suerte de estudiar en la mítica
escuela de arte de Black Mountain College,
aplica aquí los conocimientos y las teorías sobre el color
de su maestro Josef Albers, a quien dedica sus obras.
(también dedicado a la esposa de Albers)

we enjoy the playful side of art and education in these books.

art was so alive and creative at that time that hadn't got full enough

with galleries and museums, that poured into everything: 

design, jewelry, books, fashion...

there were fearless and witty artists wishing to test different mediums.

how i wish i could be there just for a while

in Black Mountain College.

en estos libros se aprecia el aspecto lúdico del arte y de la enseñanza.
son muestras una época en la que la actividad artística estaba tan viva y tan desbocada que no tenía bastante con llenar las salas de arte e invadía otros campos como el diseño de objetos, joyas, accesorios, moda, libros...
gracias a esos artistas sin miedo a experimentar y con ganas de probar diferentes formatos para expresar sus maneras de entender el mundo y la vida, tenemos tesoros como éstos.

queda un tercer libro de Reiss: Números,
les pedimos a Blackie Little Books que nos lo traigan pronto? :)
